VAS6910
The AVL DiTEST VAS6910 is a service unit for high-performance traction batteries that has been tailored to the requirements of electric mobility. Maintenance of the battery components by a central site, as is currently the case, is possible only for fleet and pilot operation and is not suitable for the mass market as each repair involves the transportation of dangerous goods (resulting in high costs and risks).
If a cell or a module in a lithium-ion traction battery is defective and needs to be replaced, the defective cell first needs to be identified and removed. Prior to being used, the new cell must be given exactly the same charge level as the cells of the battery which are still intact. If that is not taken into consideration, it can in turn result in the weakest cells being destroyed and, in extreme cases, can lead to a fire. With the VAS6910, it is possible to condition individual modules in the workshop and hence repair the high-voltage battery on site.
Environmental relevance
The device should be used for the improved maintenance and specific repair of electric vehicle batteries. Currently, the entire vehicle battery must be replaced as a whole, even if just one cell is defective, which neither saves on resources, nor is it cost-efficient. With the VAS6910, pinpoint repairs can be carried out on the actual defective parts and therefore achieve considerably higher resource and cost efficiency. Another environmental advantage is the fact that there is no need to transport dangerous goods, which are currently needed on account of the central maintenance system.
