Also 2007 AVL DiTEST carried the participants of the Ennstal-Classic through and provided for an indulgence of the environment.

Due to the enormous success in 2006 we have doubled our team and tested the majority of the participating vehicles in two boxes. Owing to the free analysis of ignition voltage and exhaust emission characteristics many pilots were able to optimize their classic cars and reach their destination safely and environmentally friendly. Also Peter Kraus and rallye champion Earl Ernst Harrach brought their classic car treasures to the expert check-up of the AVL DiTEST team before the competition.

For the first time Gerald Lackner, president of the AVL DiTEST group and Ingo Glatter, Director Sales and Marketing followed their passion for classics of vehicle history. Together with business partners they achieved the goal of this extraordinary and difficult race.

Repetition due to big success:
AVL DiTEST is once again technical Partner of the Ennstal-Classic

The enormous success we were faced with at the Ennstal-Classic 2006 is taken one step further: The AVL DiTEST test station this year offers twice as many pilots as last year the rare opportunity to be informed about the ignition voltage and exhaust emission characteristics of their classic cars.

FAQ for Manfred Stohl regarding instrumentation

Question to Manfred Stohl:
Mr Stohl, why was AVL DiTEST selected as technical collaboration partner for rally sport?

Manfred Stohl:
The know-how of an international company like AVL helps us. AVL’s engineers are dedicated and give us excellent support. Having completed a phase of instrument testing we have found that the particularly straightforward operation of the equipment is a great advantage for us in high-stress situations at competition service points.

Question to Manfred Stohl:
What is the decisive advantage here?

Manfred Stohl:
It can be really exasperating driving a vehicle on the absolute limit only then to be slowed down by some technical fault. Then only one thing counts: bite the bullet and battle through to the next service point. That’s where all the mechanical crew equipment must be waiting and, since we introduced AVL equipment, we’ve been finding faults in the electronics more easily and quickly. Often it’s a matter of seconds or minutes that decide whether you have to grapple with the next special stage still having the same problem or can really attack with a completely intact vehicle. Ultimately it’s often just a small fault with big consequences that can push a team right back.

Question to Manfred Stohl:
With motor sport the question often comes up as to how normal drivers might benefit from the sport. So Mr Stohl, what do you think in relation to this collaboration?

Manfred Stohl:
Our team members and AVL’s people work closely together. Regarding its equipment, AVL says that all the new functions and improvements developed with us will be implemented in production instruments. In rallying, time makes the difference between winning and losing; in the workshop I’d say time is money, so everybody wins.

Many thanks for the interview.
